DSBの車両には、見る人に強烈な印象を与えるものがあります。これらはとてもユニークですが、同時に実用的な要請に基づいています。今では正面全体がゴム幌になっている、チューブのようなディーゼルカーは世界各地に輸出され、短車体連接の通勤電車も各国で注目を集めています。20年前にはデンマークには航送の列車が多く存在し、IC(特急)も編成を短く分割して積み込む必要がありました。しかし貫通式のデザインは幅が限られます。そんな中、DBSでは画期的な「正面全部を貫通扉にする」デザインのIC3を登場させました。これは大成功で、同形態の電車であるER・ETも作られました。
Some of Dannish (DSB's) trains give us great impact, since their design is very unique. However, these designs are lead from practical reasons. Nowadays, tube-like diesel cars (IC3) are exporeted to many countries, and short-body-united commutor trains are being introduced in Stockholm and Tokyo.Twenty years ago, Dannish train network was splitted by many inner seas, and sometimes boats carried trains. A long express trains needed to be splited to fit into the boat, so they needed to have a pass-way door at the cabin. A unique design was developed to fulfill this requirement, and it has turned out to be a great success.
