DSBの地域輸送では、電車や気動車のほかに機関車牽引の客車列車も使われてきました。EA形交流電気機関車は1984年、ME形ディーゼル機関車は1981年から導入され、シェラン島などで活躍しました。制御客車を組み込む編成では、客車側の運転台から機関車を操作し、終点で機関車を付け替えずに折り返せます。
DSB regional services have used locomotive-hauled coaches alongside electric and diesel trainsets. Class EA electric locomotives arrived from 1984 and Class ME diesels from 1981, hauling trains on Zealand. Sets with a driving trailer can operate in push-pull mode: the locomotive is controlled from the coach-end cab, avoiding the need to move it around the train at a terminus.
