The 1967 trains were built for the Victoria Line, using eight-car formations and automatic operation from the line's opening, with operators principally supervising travel and controlling doors. The 1973 trains entered Piccadilly Line service from 1975, using six-car formations with longer cars and luggage space near doors for the Heathrow extension. These were distinct fleets for different duties; the Victoria Line's 1967 trains were finally withdrawn in 2011.
