The Ofoten Line is the world's northernmost passenger railway. It opened to carry iron ore from the Kiruna mine to Narvik and Luleå. Originally operated by Swedish State Railways (SJ), its freight services are now run by the partly publicly owned MTAB following SJ's division and privatisation, and locomotive management has also passed to MTAB. Passenger services are operated by Connex, with the Rc6 locomotives described later hauling sleeping cars and seated coaches.
