VT98 was a two-axle Uerdingen railbus introduced in the 1950s to reduce operating costs on West German branch lines. Two underfloor diesel engines and conventional buffers and couplings allowed operation with trailers and driving trailers. Renumbered Class 798 in 1968, many powered cars survived in heritage railway and museum use after retirement.
