Since Frankfurt developed mainly after the war, its S-Bahn has a newer system than those in Berlin and Hamburg. It uses overhead AC supply and Class 420 trains approximately 67.4 m long. Series 420, built from 1969, was long the main fleet, but Series 423 has since taken over. All services is operated by DB.
