Class 641 is the German single-car version of the Alstom Coradia A TER family, jointly developed by DB and SNCF. The family was built from 1999 to 2004, and DB acquired forty cars. Nicknamed Walfisch, or whale, for its rounded cab, it has two diesel engines, low-floor accommodation between the bogies and a 120 km/h maximum speed for unelectrified regional services.
