612形は、非電化区間の速達地域列車向けに1998〜2003年に製造された2両編成の気動車です。曲線で車体を傾け、在来線の所要時間短縮を図った「RegioSwinger」で、2003年には運休したICE TDの代役にも使われました。2004年には車輪・車軸周辺の問題で傾斜機能が停止され、翌年から部品交換と復旧が進められました。
DB Class 612 is a two-car RegioSwinger diesel train built from 1998 to 2003 for fast regional services. Its tilting mechanism reduced journey times on winding unelectrified routes, and some units replaced ICE TD trains in 2003. Wheelset problems suspended tilting operation in 2004; component replacement and restoration began the following year.
