485形は、旧東ドイツでベルリンSバーン向けに開発されたDRの270形を、統一後に改番した電車です。試作車は1988年に営業運転に入り、電動車と付随車の2両ユニットを基本としました。統一後は旧西側の480形や新しい481形と同じ路線網で使われましたが、2023年11月12日に営業運転を終えました。
Class 485 originated as East Germany's DR Class 270 for the Berlin S-Bahn and was renumbered after reunification. Prototypes entered passenger service in 1988, with a powered car and trailer forming the basic two-car unit. It later shared the network with the western-designed Class 480 and newer Class 481; passenger service ended on 12 November 2023.
