Gothenburg's M31 was created around the turn of the millennium by adding a low-floor centre section to existing M21 articulated trams. The original end sections and powered bogies were retained, while a new section manufactured by Germany's MGB improved access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The resulting unidirectional, three-section vehicles are about 31 m long, providing greater capacity as individual trams rather than relying on the earlier multiple-unit arrangement.
