1994年に登場したE1系は、新幹線で初めての全車2階建て車両でした。電気機器は台車の上に置かれています。各編成は電動車6両と付随車6両で構成され、最高速度は240 km/hです。主に上越新幹線の「とき」に使われました。
Series E1, introduced in 1994, was the first all-double-decker Shinkansen train type. Its electrical equipment is located above the bogies. Each trainset consists of six motor cars and six trailer cars, with a maximum speed of 240 km/h. The trains were mainly used on Toki services on the Joetsu Shinkansen.
