Series 5000 is the largest group in Nishitetsu (136 cars). Since 1975, the series are built to enforce commuter services. Based on preveous series 600 and 700, series 5000 adopted a curved winded windshield only in the dirver side (on the left). They are mainly used in local services.西鉄5000系は136両が在籍する、西鉄最多の形式です。600・700系に次ぐ通勤車として1975年に登場しました。運転室側の窓ガラスには曲面ガラスが採用されました。福岡都市圏の発展とともに増備され、急行を中心に活躍してきました。最近では急行用に3000系の導入が進んだことから、各停運用がメインになってきました。
