VRのDv12は、ロコモとヴァルメトが1963～1984年に製造した、旅客列車と貨物列車の双方を牽引するための液体式ディーゼル機関車です。軽い軸重が支線での運転に適し、複数の機関車を一つの運転台から制御できるため、重い列車では重連や三重連も用いられました。路線の電化が進むにつれて非電化区間の貨物輸送や構内の入換が重要な仕事となり、フィンランドのディーゼル動力を長年支えてきました。
VR's Dv12 was built by Lokomo and Valmet between 1963 and 1984 as a diesel-hydraulic locomotive for both passenger and freight trains. Its relatively light axle load suited branch lines, while multiple-unit control allowed two or three locomotives to work together under one crew. As electrification expanded, freight duties on unelectrified lines and yard shunting became increasingly important parts of its work across the Finnish railway network.
