東京メトロ東西線は、中野からJR中央線、西船橋からJR総武線に直通しています。JRの直通車は長く301系と103系1200番台が使用されてきましたが、2003年からはE231系800番台が使われています。主要機器はE231系に準じますが、車体は209系に類似した、裾絞りが無いものです。また、正面には貫通扉が設置されています。
The Tokyo Metro Tozai Line runs through onto the JR Chuo Line from Nakano and the JR Sobu Line from Nishi-Funabashi. JR through services long used Series 301 and Series 103-1200, but Series E231-800 has been used since 2003. Its main equipment follows Series E231, but the body resembles Series 209, without a tapered lower section. A front gangway door is also provided.
