EMU Series 300 is the first Shinkansen designed by JR Tokai. Its maximum speed is 270 km/h, faster than the 220 km/h of Series 100. The body is made of aluminum, and motors are inverter-controlled. Since 1992, the series was used in Nozomi superexpress services, but was later relegated to slower Kodama services and eventually withdrawn.
