空港線は1981年、箱崎線は1982年に開業しました。福岡空港と貝塚を起点とし、姪浜からJR筑肥線へ直通します。福岡市地下鉄の車両には、ステンレス車体に青い帯を持つ1000系と2000系があります。JRの103系1500番台と303系も見られます。
