The Series 1000 family grew into a major fleet larger than Series 3000, but from Type 1070 onwards it changed to three doors. The fixed two-car type changed from Type 1300 to Type 1350, and the fixed three-car type from Series 1100 to Series 1150. Type 1320 was also built as an intermediate-car unit to be inserted between the fixed two-car Types 1300 and 1350. Unlike Type 1070, these three-door Series 1000 cars adopted a window arrangement based on Series 3000. Series 1500, subsequently built for the Park Town Line together with Series 2000, also joined the three-car group. As more Series 5000 trains were added, four-car trains containing Type 1320 intermediate motor cars became surplus, while non-air-conditioned two-car Types 1000 and 1300 needed replacement. Driving cabs from Types 1000 and 1300 were therefore joined to Type 1320 cars, creating the new three-door, fixed two-car Type 1370. Type 1370 resembles Type 1350, but its pantograph positions differ. Further rearrangement means that most cars now form four-car trains.
