大阪市営地下鉄21系は1991年から製造された御堂筋線用の新20系です。ステンレス車体に赤い帯を配し、VVVF制御と冷房を採用しました。当初の9両編成は1995年から10両化され、北大阪急行との直通運転にも使われました。
Osaka Municipal Subway Series 21 was built from 1991 as the Midosuji Line member of the new Series 20 family. Stainless-steel bodies carried red bands, with VVVF control and air conditioning. The original nine-car sets were lengthened to ten cars from 1995 and also worked through services onto Kita-Osaka Kyuko.
