Kobe's Rokko Liner opened in 1990, connecting JR Sumiyoshi with Rokko Island via Hanshin Uozaki. Its original Series 1000 was built from 1989 as four-car rubber-tyred trains with rounded fronts and green bands. The elevated route links the city's railways with residential and business districts on the artificial island.
