The Kakogawa Line connects Kakogawa on the Sanyo Main Line with Tanikawa on the Fukuchiyama Line. It was a valuable non-electrified line that could be reached in 30 minutes from Kobe. Services to Nishiwakishi ran once or twice an hour, connecting with Shintetsu's Ao Line at Ao. After the Great Hanshin Earthquake, it attracted attention as a detour for journeys from the Osaka area to Kobe. Alongside KiHa 40, KiHa 47 and KiHa 37 cars in Kakogawa Line colours, cars in Kishin Line colours could also be seen. (Photographs of Series 127 after electrification are here.)
