JR西日本221系は1989年に登場した3扉の近郊電車で、白い車体と転換クロスシートが特徴です。阪和線では快速系統に使われ、通勤形の103系・205系とは座席配置や車体構成が異なりました。天王寺と和歌山方面を結ぶ近郊輸送の姿を記録しています。
JR West Series 221 was introduced in 1989 as a three-door suburban train with white bodies and reversible transverse seating. On the Hanwa Line it worked rapid services, contrasting with the seating and body layouts of commuter Series 103 and 205. These photographs record suburban travel between Tennoji and the Wakayama area.
