Series 5500, built from 1995, is designed for local services with high acceleration. The first batch replaced cars damaged in the Great Hanshin Earthquake. It was the first Hanshin type with inverter motors and bolsterless bogies. A total of 26 cars is used on the Hanshin Main Line.
