Hankyu Series 9300 entered service in 2003 for Kyoto Line limited expresses. Unlike the two-door Series 6300, it had three doors per side, originally combining reversible transverse seating with longitudinal seating at the car ends. Hitachi-built aluminium bodies and VVVF inverter control supported a design intended to balance limited-express comfort with commuter demand.
