阪急8000系は1988年末に最初の車両が製造され、1989年1月に宝塚線で営業運転を始めました。アルミ車体とVVVFインバータ制御を採用し、初期車は額縁状の前面が特徴です。神戸線・宝塚線で使われ、後の増備車では前面形状が変更されました。
The first Hankyu Series 8000 cars were built in late 1988, with passenger service beginning on the Takarazuka Line in January 1989. Aluminium bodies and VVVF inverter control were combined with a distinctive framed front on the early cars. The series worked on the Kobe and Takarazuka Lines, with later batches receiving a revised front design.
