Hankyu Series 5100 was introduced in 1971 with factory-fitted air conditioning, with construction continuing until 1979. Its equipment was standardized to allow use across the Kobe, Takarazuka and Kyoto systems. After assignments to all three, it became particularly associated with the Takarazuka system, and some cars were transferred to Nose Electric Railway.
