VR's Dm7 railcars were built by Valmet in the 1950s and 1960s and became familiar as the 'flat hats' of Finnish local rail travel. Developed from the earlier Dm6, they worked with trailers to provide economical short-distance services in place of steam-hauled trains. After regular operation ended, preservation groups retained examples, including Dm7 4020, which the Finnish Railway Museum maintains in working order for limited use at museum events.
