つくばエクスプレスは、2005年に秋葉原とつくばを結んで開業しました。TX-1000系は直流専用で秋葉原〜守谷間に使われ、TX-2000系は交直流対応で全線を走れます。開業用車両は6両編成で、電化方式の違いが運用範囲に反映されています。
Tsukuba Express opened between Akihabara and Tsukuba in 2005. DC-only Series TX-1000 works between Akihabara and Moriya, while dual-voltage Series TX-2000 can operate over the entire route. The opening trains had six-car formations, with their operating range determined by the route's different electrification systems.
