西武2000系は1977年に新宿線で営業運転を開始した通勤車です。従来の3扉車から片側4扉へ変更し、駅での乗降時間の短縮を図りました。1988年以降の増備車は外観が大きく異なり、新2000系として区別されています。
Seibu Series 2000 entered commuter service on the Shinjuku Line in 1977. Four pairs of doors per side replaced Seibu's earlier three-door layout to shorten boarding and alighting times. Trains built from 1988 differed substantially in appearance and are distinguished as the new Series 2000.
