When the Hanzomon Line opened, the only rolling stock available was Tokyu Series 8500. In 1981, Eidan (the predecessor of Tokyo Metro) introduced EMU 8000, based on EMU 6000. The series used Japan's first bolsterless bogies, which proved highly successful. Series 8600 and 8700, introduced in 1994, have a similar body to EMU 9000.
