205系500番台は1991年の相模線電化に合わせて導入された専用車で、4両編成で運転されました。従来の205系とは異なる前面デザインと、乗客が操作できるドア開閉機構を備えていました。
JR East introduced Series 205-500 in four-car sets for the electrification of the Sagami Line in 1991. The trains had a redesigned cab front and passenger-operated doors, distinguishing them from earlier Series 205.
