5700系はパノラマカーに続く急行用車両として1986年に製造されました。広い前面窓により、運転士の前方視界を確保しています。5700系が新造された一方、5300系は5000系・5200系から改造されました。その後は主に支線で使われ、最終的に引退しました。
Series 5700 was built in 1986 as an express train type succeeding the Panorama Car. It has a wide windshield that gives the driver a good forward view. While Series 5700 was newly built, Series 5300 was refurbished from Series 5000 and 5200 cars. They later served mainly on branch lines and were eventually withdrawn.
