JR東海の在来線特急では、電化区間を走る383系と、非電化区間を走ったキハ85系で動力方式が異なります。「しなの」の振り子式電車と、「ひだ」「南紀」の気動車が、中部地方の都市間輸送を担ってきました。
JR Central's conventional-line limited express trains include the electric Series 383 and the former diesel KiHa 85. Tilting trains on Shinano and diesel trains on Hida and Nanki provided contrasting approaches to intercity transport in central Japan.
