山陰本線には長い非電化区間があり、都市間の特急から地域の普通列車まで気動車が使われています。国鉄時代のキハ58系も、急行用の車両から普通列車用へと役割を変えて活躍しました。
Long sections of the Sanin Main Line are non-electrified, so diesel trains serve both interurban limited expresses and regional local services. JNR KiHa Series 58 also continued in local service after its original express duties.
