42系は1933～1935年に鉄道省が製造した、片側2扉・クロスシートの旧形電車です。中国地方ではクモハ42が小野田線の本山支線で使われ、戦前の車両が残る路線として知られました。
The Series 42 family was built by the Ministry of Railways between 1933 and 1935, with two doors per side and transverse seating. In Chugoku, KuMoHa 42 cars became associated with the Motoyama branch of the Onoda Line, where these pre-war trains survived.
