リヨンのメトロは1978年に開業し、A・B・C・Dの4路線が市内の主要地区と鉄道駅を結んでいます。A・B・D線はゴムタイヤ式ですが、クロワ・ルースの丘へ上るC線は旧ケーブルカーを転用した路線で、急勾配区間にラックレールを備える鉄輪式車両が使われます。1991年に開業したD線は翌年に無人運転へ移行し、ホームドアを設けずに赤外線で線路上の障害物を検知する自動運転方式を採用しました。
Lyon's Métro opened in 1978 and developed into four lines linking city districts and mainline stations. Lines A, B and D use rubber-tyred trains, whereas Line C climbs towards Croix-Rousse on a converted funicular alignment using steel wheels and a rack on the steep section. Line D opened in 1991 and switched to driverless operation in 1992, using infrared obstacle detection rather than platform screen doors.
