2002年に登場した5000系は、大きな車両群へ成長しました。JR東日本のE231系を基本としていますが、より大出力の電動機を備えます（E231系は110 kW、東急5000系は190 kW）。両形式とも東急車輛製造が製造しました。横浜高速鉄道のY500系は、ほぼ同じ設計です。
Series 5000, introduced in 2002, has grown into a large fleet. Based on JR East's Series E231, it has more powerful motors (E231: 110 kW, Tokyu 5000: 190 kW). Both types were built by Tokyu Car Corporation. Series Y500 for Yokohama Minatomirai Railway has an almost identical design.
