東京にはいくつもの私鉄があり、東急はその一つです。五つの主要路線と一つの軌道線を持ちます。東横線と田園都市線は乗客数の非常に多い幹線ですが、池上線と多摩川線は主に地域内の交通に使われます。大井町線はいくつもの放射状の路線を結びます。設備上の制約により、池上線と多摩川線では18 m車両だけが走れます。主に更新車が使われていますが、2008年から置き換えられる予定でした。
There are several private railways in Tokyo, and Tokyu is one of them. It has five major lines and one tramway. While Toyoko Line and Den-en-toshi Line are arterial routes with huge numbers of passengers, Ikegami Line and Tamagawa Line are used mostly for local traffic. Oimachi Line connects several radial lines. Due to infrastructure constraints, only 18-metre vehicles can run on Ikegami Line and Tamagawa Line. Refurbished vehicles are mainly used, but they were to be replaced from 2008.
