EMU Series E4 is double-decked Shinkansen, following E1. A trainset consists of 8 cars, and they are coudpled with other E4 trainset, or with E3 'Tsubasa' and 'Komachi' express. Since their max. speed is 240km/h, they are going to move from Tohoku Shinkansen to Joetsu shinkansen.E4 系は、E1 系に継ぐ二階建て車両です。編成が 8 連になり、E3 系「つばさ」との連結や、重連など、柔軟な運用が可能になりました。機器類は台車直上の床上に収納されていて、全車二階建てです。1M1T を組み、最高速度は 240km/h に留まります。東北新幹線の高速化に伴い、今後は上越新幹線中心の運用になる予定です。
