Series 6500, in service since 1984, have a similar body to JNR 117. They have a little larger seats than series 6000 and chopper control system. At first, the top-half of the doors were white, but now all the body is painted in red. They are merged with series 6000 and 6800.1984年に登場した6500系は、高運転台・非貫通式の車体を持ちます。編成は4連、制御装置は界磁チョッパで、クロスシートはやや大型化されました。2連は抵抗制御の6000系として増備が続きましたが、1987年からは界磁添加励磁制御の6800系に移行しました。側扉上が白いのが特徴でしたが、現在は赤一色の塗装です。
