Series 3700 was introduced in 1996. Compared with Series 3500, it has a larger body cross-section and more seats. Series 3100 was the first two-car trainset in the inverter-control 3X00 group. The trains is used on both main lines and branch lines. Series 3700 and 3100 were among Meitetsu's last steel-bodied commuter trains.
