Nagoya is the third biggest urban field in Japan. Meitetsu (a shortened form of Nagoya-Tetsudou with Kanji characters) runs there.

Meitetsu trains in 2004. Series 3500 and 6000 have red doors, and series 2000 (Mu-sky) appeared. Half of the limited express were operated by series 1000 and 1600. Panorama car series 7000 and 7500 run as express services, but Gifu lines was dededed to close soon.
"Panorama car" series 7000 is famous for its tyle, whose cabin is over the passenger room. They have four 75kw motors in each car, and maximum speed is 110km/h. They run as limited express and express services since 1961 to 2008. Some pictures are taken in Inuyama Trolley Bridge.
Series 7500 had a better performance than series 7000, aimed at 130km/h in Nagoya Honsen (main line). They had been used in limited express since 1963, but all the stocks are withdrawn in 2005. They had slightly lower floors. Series 7100 are a variation of 7000, but going to be withdrawn in 2009.
Some panorama-cars (series 7000) are refurblished for limited express services. They have larger seats and colored floor. They can easily identified with white bands on the red body. All the series 7700, a variation of Panorama car without a view room, were similarly refurblished.
Parorama Car was in a flagship position for a long time, but finally withdrawn in 2009. These photos are taken from 2004 to 2008. They run as express in Inuyama and Kowa line, and local services near Shin-Nagoya. Some photos are series 7500, which wait for scrapping.
Panorama DX 8800 was the first series whose cabin is under the passengers room. The style was succeeded by series 1000. Series 1600 were introduced to replace series 7000's limited express. Now they are coupled with series 2200. Series 8500 were used as "Kita Alps" express, but now in Aidu Railway.
Series 1000 are used in limited express since 1988. Since their cab is under the passenger room, passengers can sit forefront. The maximum speed is 120km/h. An extra ticket (called mu ticket) is required for taking series 1000, 1600 and 2000. Now all the series 1000 form a trainset with series 1200.
Series 1200 are used for normal-class cars of limited express since 1991. They have three doors in a side, with cross seats. They mainly run Nagoya Main line (Honsen), but also run Inuyama and Tokoname line. Series 1800 consists of 2 cars, used to support series 1200 in rush hours.
Series 2000 are used for "mu-sky" express from Centrair Airport to Meitetsu Nagoya since 2005. With its tilting mechanism, it runs in the speed of 130km/h. Its front mask is black, and side is blue, which is charactristic in other red trains. A trainset consists of 4 cars, some are coupled to 8 cars.
Series 2200 are similar to series 2000, but they do not have tilting mechanism. They have non-special cars, which have 3 doors in a side. They are used in limited express in Nagoya, Inuyama, Tokoname and Nishio lines. A trainset consists with 6 cars, and sometimes merged with 3100 and 3150.
Series 5500 were introduced in 1959, as the first air-conditioned commuter train in Japan. It has four 75kw motors in each car, achieving 110km/h. After series 7000 appeaer in 1961, they were in a unspectacular position. The series suit for branch line services, but finally withdrawn in 2005.
Series 5700 has built in 1986, as express stocks successing Panorama Cars. It has a wide windsield for good view from the cabin. While series 5700 were newly built, series 5300 were refurblished from series 5000 and 5200. Now they serve in branch lines. Series 5300 are going to be withdrwan soon.
Series 6000 are the first commuter style stocks in Meitetsu. They were equipped with small cross seats at first, but now changed to normal sideseats. They are in service both for express and local trains. Series 3300 (I) had nose suspension drives, but now all the stocks are withdrawn.
Series 6500, in service since 1984, have a similar body to JNR 117. They have a little larger seats than series 6000 and chopper control system. At first, the top-half of the doors were white, but now all the body is painted in red. They are merged with series 6000 and 6800.
The second variation of series 6500 and 6800, built from 1989, have a large rounded windshield. They have large comfortable cross seats. The top half of the doors were painted in white at first, but later changed to gray, and now painted in red. They are used in every line but for Toyota and Komaki.
Series 3500, built in 1993, made a great technological advance in Meitetsu. They adoptted electric control break, inverter and bolster-less bofies. They cannot be merged with older stocks. A number of 136 cars has built in 4 years, now being seen everywhere in Meitetsu line.
Series 3700 were introduces in 1996. Comparing to series 3500, they have a larger section and more seats. Series 3100 are the first 2-car-trainset in the inverter group (series 3X00). They are used in both main lines and branch lines. Series 3700 and 3100 are the last steal body commuter trains.
Series 3300 and 3150 are the first stainless stocks in Meitetsu. Since they were built by Nissha (Nihon Sharyo), the doors are designed in a separated module. They are couled with series 3500 and 3100 to form 6-car-trainsets, for express services in Nagoya main line and Inuyama Line.
Series 5000 are renovated from series 1000 "panorama super" in 2008. They have a similar body to series 3300, but their front design is slightly different. Its mechanism is the same as series 1000 and 1200: 150kw motors. They are mainly used in a single trainset (4 cars).
Meitetsu Series 100 is used going-through service among Inuyama Line, Subway Tsurumai Line and Toyota Line. It is equipped with powerful motor for high accelaration in Subway and high speed for overground services.
Series 300 is used in Komaki line and Subway Kami-iida Line. It has larger body than ordinary Meitetsu trains, as it runs through Nagoya city subway.
Since 1980s, Yaotsu line and Mikawa line are de-erectricified and DMUs, series 10, 20 and 30, were in operation. They were withdrawn, as these lines were closed. Series 3400 were used in limite express in Nagoya Main line since 1930s to 1960s. They had 135kw motors and run in the speed of 110km/h.
Meitetsu Deki 400 is an electric locomotive with boxy body. Although its power is not large (360kw), they tow working trains. They were used for freight trains in black and yellow outfit. They are usually stopping at Yahagibashi station.

These Seto line photos were taken in 2004. Series 4000 had not appeared, and the train depot was located in Kitayama, not in Owari Asahi. HL (manual acceleration) stocks, such as series 3780, had already been withdrawn, but AL stocks (series 6650 and 6750) were in service.
Meitstsu Series 6000 have moved to Seto line in 1995. In 1995, series 6000 in other lines had white doors, but those in Seto line have red doors. All the seats were changed to side seats. After 36 cars have moved from Nagoya Main Line, these stocks are the largest groups in Seto lines.
Meitetsu series 6600 were put into service in 1976, as Seto Line extension to Sakaemachi opened. Based on series 6000, they have bumper in front. Side windows can open, since they did not have air conditioning. Now they have air conditioning, used for express, semi-express and local services.
Meitetsu series 6650 were renovated from series 3900 in 1986. They have similar body to series 6600, except they do not have a bumper in front and they have air conditioning from the first. The stocks are the last nose suspension drive suburban train in Japanese major railways.
Series 6750, built in 1990, have similar origin to series 6650. Although they have old nose suspension drive and goeritz bogies, the body have larger windows and original front design. A number of 20 cars were built. As series 4000 are put into service, they are now being withdrwan.
Since 1976, Seto line ran dry moat of Nagoya castle from Doishita to Otsubashi and Horikawa. Now they run underground to Sakaemachi, the downtown of Nagoya. Higashiote Station is a rustic underground station. Trains arrive at every 4 minutes in the morning, every 15 minutes in the daytime.
Meitetsu had a wide light rail network in Gifu city until 2005. Gifu tram, Minomachi line, Ibi line and Tanigumi line. Some of the stocks dated back from 1930s.

Type 570, built in 1950, with the similar style to type 6000 in Tokyo tram. It is mainly used between Chusetsu and Shin-gifu. Type 550 was originally built for Kanazawa tram, mainly used between Shin-gifu and Nagara-kitamachi. Type 590, built in 1957, was used in Minomachi Line.
Type 510 was built in 1926. It has half-wooden body with curved 5-window front design and round side windows. Although they were used in Minomachi line, they were renovated for express services in Ibi line. Three of them had survived until 2005, when all the gifu lines were closed.
Meitetsu Type 770 was the first air-conditioned vehicle in Gifu lines. They ran from Kurono to Shin-gifu. It ran in the speed of 70km/h in Ibi line, 45km/h in Gifu tram. The united body length is 20m. Now they have moved to Fukui railway, where they ran both tramway and normal railway.
Nagoya city subway(Metro) is the third earliest subway in Japan. The first line was Higashiyama line, which starts from Sakae to Nagoya (Nagoya JNR station). While Higashiyama, Meijo and Meiko line have smaller clearance, Tsurumai, Sakuradori and Kami-iida line have almost standard clearance. Stocks in the former lines have 15m body, third-rail power collection and 1435mm gauge, stocks in the latter have 20m body, pantograph power collection and 1067mm gauge (which is compatible to most overground Japanese railways).

Series 5000 are build for Higashiyama Line in 1983, as the first air-conditioned units in the line. It has aluminum body with 3 doors, 6 cars compose one trainset. The yellow band shows the color for Higashiyama line. Now this series is being withdrawn, for its aged body and electric equipment.
Series 5050, built from 1992, replaced yellow non-air-conditioned stocks, such as EMU 250 and 300. They are based on EMU 2000 on Meijo line, but front design and yellow belt are inherited from EMU 50000. A number of 162 stocks were built, now the main force in Higashiyama line.
Series N1000 has appeared in 2008. The body is separately built with small blocks, so the joint can be seen near doors. While series 5000 and 5050 use rubber sealed tires, series N1000 use normal tire. They are going to replace series 5000 in Higashiyama Line.
Series 2000 has been in Meijo-line service since 1989. The series were countinuously built until 2004, now taking charge of all the services in Meijo Loop and Meiko line.
Nagoya metro series 3000 were built in 1977 for opening of Tsurumai line. Their 20-m body with blue belt is made of stainless and steal. Body width is 2740mm, which is 60 mm smaller than that of JR stocks. Motors are chopper controlled. They are planned to be withdrawn in the next 10 years.
Kamejima station in Higashiyama line is the next station from JR Nagoya station. The station opened in 1969, and has not changed much since then. From the station, you can access to Toyota and Noritake museum. Skyscrapers can also be seen beautifully.
All the stocks of Nagoya Metro are designed by Nihon-Sharyou Corp. Only EMU 5000 are made of alminum, other stocks are made of stainless steal. While stocks in Higashiyama, Meijo and Meiko line have 16m body, stocks in Tsurumai, Sakuradori and Kamiida have larger 20m body.
Since Japanese National Railway has been split into 7 private companies, JR-Central has taken over Tokaido Shinkansen and railways around Nagoya district. While Tokaido Shinkansen is a cash cow, local railways (Zairai-sen) are facing competition against cars.

Linimo is the first floating linear motorcar in operation in Japan. Its max. speed 80kmph is rather slow, but its acceleration and low-noise is remarkable.
Ustube line is a narrow gauge(762mm) line in Yokkaichi city. Operated by Kintetsu train company.
