After the testing with ICE V, ICE 1 and ICE 2 were built with the locomotive-hauled style. From 1999, ICE T, equipped with tilting mechanism, started high-speed services in the east area. The newest ICE 3's max. speed reached to 330km/h, which is one of the fastest in the world. Unlike ICE 1 and ICE 2, ICE T and ICE 3 adopted EMU-style.

Unlike Lodon and Paris, subway (U-bahn) in berlin is not the major urban transport. Instead, S-Bahn (elevated railways) take a great roll. BR481 (Series 481), characterized with unique shape doors, are most often seen in Ringbahn(circle line). Series 480 (BR480) designed by West-germany and BR485 by East-germany are now running the same tracks.

Ostkreuy is located in the east end of berlin downtown, where the ring line (ringbahn) and the city line (stadbahn) cross.
Along with many abandoned tracks, the 20s' style constructions creates decadant mood. The station is planned to rebuilt in several years.

When the west and east Berlin were sepated, there were mainly two stations for the long distance trains: Zoologischer Garten and Ost bahnhof. After the reunion, a new main station was constructed in the center of berlin. While trains from west and east run thorugh the elevated railway, those from south and north come through the new underground line.

Since Frankfurt has mainly developed after the war, S-bahn (city train) in Frankfurt has newer system than S-bahn in Berlin and Hamburg. It has overhead AC supply and 26m body. Series 420 (BR420), built from 1969, had long been the main stocks, but nowadays series 423 (BR423) is the main force.
